Handmade horn jewelry, carved in natural water buffalo horn. Deep black, smooth horn is polished to a smooth finish by hand to make our boho earrings and natural jewelry.
Our handcrafted buffalo horn jewelry is carved by artists out of distant locations in natural, genuine black horn. Spiral designs, gauges, and tribal earrings made of organic buffalo horn in a natural deep black hue.
We begin by selecting the buffalo horn by color and shape, with care, then carving each piece by hand, one at a time. The earrings have a fine, soft feel with a somewhat greasy appearance that makes them, and you, look wonderful.
All of our horn earrings and horn jewelry are Fair Trade, handmade, carved by highly skilled traditional carvers from natural horn and organic materials. Our Materials are responsibly harvested. We work directly with the artists to ensure the best in quality and satisfaction. Finely handmade, carved in organic, sustainably harvested natural materials, these simple, bold, beautiful natural black earrings speak to the soul.
How to put post earrings on:
Hold the horn earring around your lobe gently. Insert the post into the opening of your ear piercing and through the front of the earring. Twist the post gently through your piercing and the rear of the earrings, wriggling it slightly until it fits. Make the post snug, but not overly so. Please don't try to compel them to do anything. The posts should be tight but not pressed into the jewelry. Be kind with yourself.
Care of your horn jewelry:
In nature, horn is similar to your hair or fingernails in that it requires maintenance. The horn jewelry and earrings should be conditioned and oiled to safeguard them. This will keep the color, sheen, and smoothness of the surface. Clean the horn earrings with a very mild soap as needed, dry them thoroughly, and condition them with jojoba oil or another organic jewelry care product as needed. Every month of wear, take care of your natural jewelry to ensure that it lasts a lifetime. Please do not store your horn earrings in direct sunlight, damp or wet environments, or extremely hot environments; they may warp, curl, or break as a result of these conditions, and cannot be fixed.
About the horn jewelry:
LATIN NAME: bubalus bubalis. ORIGIN: South-East Asia HARVESTING PRACTICE: The horn we create from is gathered from animals used for traditional organic farming practice.
OTHER DETAILS: This items are made from up-cycled materials. The South East Asian water buffalo is a domesticated animal. Some are taught to ride and are bathed on a daily basis. Buffaloes are employed to plow fields and to transport huge loads. These lovely creatures are well cared for and vital to the aboriginal peoples' survival. They are eaten after they are too old to work and all of their components are used. These are never taken only for the sake of obtaining the horn, rather, they are a valued part of daily life and a joy to witness in action.
Genuine Horn Earrings, handcrafted with precision by gifted artists whose native practice of carving horn earrings dates back generations. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted from natural horn of the South-East Asian Domestic Water Buffalo one at a time. These enormous animals, which are employed for plowing fields and transporting heavy loads, are cherished and cared for until they die.
Genuine horn created into jewelry with precision skill by talented artists whose local tradition for centuries has been making carved horn art and jewelry. Each piece is carefully crafted one at a time, by hand from selected natural horn of the South-East Asian Domestic Water Buffalo. These large animals are used for plowing fields and carrying heavy loads, and are treasured and cared for into old age. In recent years too many jewelry producers have started harvesting the buffalo horn, making them rare and difficult to get, as well as victim to poaching and theft. Although we still have this collection of Buffalo horn jewelry, we no longer produce jewelry made in horn, in regards to the unregulated over-harvesting of this precious and much needed animal, for fear of poor practices by those who provide the horn to us. The jewelry we offer here was all made of horn harvested previous to 2016. Please get what you want soon, for we will not make any more of this precious jewelry until the practices of other producers improve enough to protect this sacred animal.
